"You're Just Fat"

Right from the jump our reading takes
us to a subject that has surfaced throughout
the ages...Audrey's concern & attempt at
loosing weight, driven by the her husband
Paul who is adamant about her loosing
20 lbs. He tells her, "you'll feel better about
yourself." In this statement he not only
cuts into her self esteem regarding her
weight, he tells her she is feeling less
than fine about herself. Which is not her
view of self and she tells him,
"I am fine about myself." Not thinking
about how damaging words can be he
reiterates his point of view telling her,
"you are not Sophia Loren", of whom
she sees when looking at her volumpous
body, "you're just fat." Then hearing the
hurt in her response tries to clean up
what he said only adding insult to
injury comparing her to the unrealistic
image portrayed by the models in
a magazine he is looking at...sticks..rails..
Twiggy types...even though this was
during the late 60's this same bedroom
conversation continues today.
Everyone is Not a Twiggy & should Not
be expected to become a Twiggy.
First key to true love is loving one
another as who God created us to Be.
His creations come in all shapes and
sizes and true love begins in love
of self. Of course, take care of
yourself..eat well & excercise.
(which benefits both physical & mental health.)
But, striving to become the anorexic
emotionally unstable models we see in
the media. NOT...watch any program,
read any magazine about the life of a
model and you will hear the same story;
they are hungry and barely eat. The
goal to joyful living & loving yourself is
not found in the picture below....it lies
"somewhere in between."
